Master Classes!

Ballet-
Ballet classes last from 1-2 hours and are divided into two parts, Barre and Center. Excercises at the Barre warm up and strengthen your muscles and help you practice the basic movements of Ballet. Center work usually consists of stationary excercises, progressions or combinations that travel, then progresses to small jumps, leaps and turns that travel across the floor. The exercises vary from one lesson to the next, but usually follow the same general order and bulid on skillset and age. Dance Evolutions teaches a mix of Checcetti, and Vaganova schools of dance. Ballet students are grouped in classes according to skillset and age. Ballet is the basis of all dance forms.

Pointe-
Starting Pointe work is not just a question of age or physical maturity, readiness depends on depends on strength, technique, attitude and commitment. Students and Parents must realize that there is a SERIOUS risk of injury introducing Pointe work at an early age. The bones of the foot are not fully devloped strengthened and hardened until sometime in the late teens and early twenties. If a young dancer attempts Pointe work without proper strength, and technique, the foot and legs can be perminently damaged by the force of the full bodyweight being put on the toes. Most dancers begin Pointe at the age of 11. Dancers need at least 2-4 years of training in classical Ballet for at least 2 times a week with a good attendance record before going on Pointe. 2 extra Ballet classes a week are mandatory for any of our dancers to take Pointe. If one class is missed during the week the child may attend the Pointe class only in Ballet slipperes. Please trust our judgement on our decision too put your children on Pointe as we are very educated in this aspect and want to keep your children safe and injury free. Ages 11+ (must have permission from School Director)

Modern-
Modern dance is more weighted than Ballet, it is more grounded. Working turned in as well as turned out, with feet flexed, as well as pointed, breathing through movements, contraction and release, and fall and recovery are all terms you will hear us use. Dance Evolutions teaches Graham Technique, which helps greatly with turn out in Ballet. Modern classes include floor work, seated, kneeling,
lying, and various uses of space. 1 Ballet class a week is a requirement for this class. Ages 13+
