Cathy Scavelli - was born in Connecticut and holds a Bachelor’s
Degree in Elementary Education. She
began dancing at the age of three and trained in ballet, tap and jazz. Her instructor, Lorraine Judd, was mentored
by tap greats Henry LeTang and Leon Collins.
Due to Cathy’s strong tap dance education, she developed a passion for
tap at an early age and knew tap would always be a part of her. Her first teaching opportunity came 17 years
ago when she was asked to teach the advanced tap class at the studio where she
was dancing. Some of the Master Tap Teachers Cathy has
taken class with include Dianne Walker, Avi Miller and Ofer Ben, Acia Gray,
Gene Medler, Germaine Salsberg, Barbara Duffy, Jay Fagan, and Jason Samuels
Smith. Her most memorable tap experience
was when she had an opportunity to dance with the late, great Gregory Hines.
Cathy is a member of the International Tap
Association. She has taught all tap levels
from beginner to advanced, and technique and tap rudiments are a part of all of
her classes. Her students will
experience all styles of tap from rhythm tap and jazz-tap, to Broadway style and
funk. Cathy is very excited to be
joining the staff of Dance Evolutions, and is looking forward to passing on her
enthusiasm and love of this art to all of the students here.
